Obtaining a web account

The KU Department of Information Technology provides central web hosting services to meet various campus needs.

Web Content Management System (CMS)

KU is currently pursuing the creation of a University-wide content-management system based on Drupal. All websites are encouraged to use this new system once it becomes available in mid-Spring 2012.

Departmental/Research Web Hosting

Departments, projects, labs, and other official KU academic and administrative units are eligible for up to 1 GB of web hosting space on the central web servers. Accounts are run through a cPanel environment and automatically configured to run both PHP and MySQL.

To request a web hosting account, please complete this online form.

Documentation on using this webserver, instructions on working with cPanel and other information can be found here.

Personal Web Hosting

KU faculty, staff, students and approved affiliates are eligible for 50 MB of personal web hosting space on people.ku.edu. Please read the memorandum of understanding to become familiar with the terms and conditions associated with using your personal web space.

You may sign up for this service when creating your KU Online ID, or if you already have a KU Online ID, you can add this service to your account.

Personal web space supports PHP and Perl via suEXEC, but must be requested. Database access, however is NOT granted for personal web hosting.

Info on connecting to your personal webspace can be found here: Dreamweaver: Defining Your Site (PDF).

Student Organizations Web Hosting

Groups registered with the Student Involvement and Leadership Center (SILC) are eligible for 200 MB of web hosting space on groups.ku.edu. For more information about group registration or to request an account, please contact SILC at orgs@ku.edu.
